Mark T Mitchell Ltd has been in practice as a specialist Consulting Geotechnical Engineer for over 40 years. The company is based in Hamilton and covers primarily the Waikato-Bay of Plenty-Coromandel-King Country areas, but with occasional projects arising throughout New Zealand, extending from Kaitaia in the north to Gore in the south. Clients include City and District Councils, Government organisations, private companies and individuals.

The primary focus of the company is to service our clients with reliable and practical advice, based on comprehensive site testing, our geological knowledge and our long-term working in association with all aspects of the construction industry. Our company is widely recognised for its expertise in providing practical and innovative geotechnical-related assessments, recommendations and designs. Since the establishment of the practice, over 15,000 projects have been undertaken, the greater portion of which originates from on-going relationships with other professionals or companies, or by referrals from individuals in these organisations.


Associate company Geocon Soil Testing Ltd, now Geocon Geotechnical Ltd, was established over 30 years ago as a service company to Mark T Mitchell Ltd and to provide a soil testing service that can be engaged directly by other consulting engineering organisations. Geocon Geotechnical Ltd in those circumstances presents bore hole and other test data directly to the engineer-client for their own interpretations. It operates two hydraulically powered drilling rigs, each capable of drilling up to 12-metre depths: one based on a Hilux utility and the other tractor mounted.
